Your Brain’s Map for Movement

A lecture exploring how the brain plans, guides and executes skilled movements, focusing on the superior colliculus and its role in reaching for objects.

About this event

Behind everyday movements such as reaching for a cup is a chain of decisions taking place in the brain. This lecture explores the superior colliculus, a region associated with visual orientation, and its role in skilled actions. Using experiments with mice, the talk examines how the brain plans, guides and executes movement, what happens when superior colliculus activity is disrupted, and how systems that help us orient towards the world may also help us interact with it.
