Integrating Lived Experience into Mental Health Research
An ACCESS Webinar Series session exploring how lived experience can contribute to mental health research, particularly around suicide, suicidality and suicide bereavement.
About this event
The ACCESS Webinar Series presents a session with Dr. Chandra Ramamurthy, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Drawing on research and personal reflections as a lived experience researcher, Dr. Chandra will examine why lived experience matters in understanding mental health, particularly in the context of suicide, suicidality and suicide bereavement. The discussion will explore how lived experience perspectives can reveal insights that traditional academic approaches may overlook. It will also consider the practical and ethical challenges of integrating lived experience into research and practice, including power imbalances, researcher wellbeing, reflexivity and navigating dual identities. The session will reflect on how academic institutions can move beyond tokenistic participation towards meaningful recognition of lived experience.
