Grid Integration of AI Data Centres: Current Status and Path Ahead
A three-day IISc workshop examining the challenges of integrating energy-intensive AI data centres into the electricity grid, covering power delivery, cooling, grid stability, cybersecurity, energy markets and simulation.
About this event
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), through its Centre for Continuing Education and Department of Electrical Engineering, is organising a workshop on Grid Integration of AI Data Centres: Current Status and Path Ahead. The workshop explores the grid integration of AI data centres, covering power delivery, cooling systems, stability challenges, cybersecurity, market tariffs and practical simulation sessions. Topics include AI load growth and grid challenges; energy-aware AI algorithm scheduling; power delivery architecture; cooling loads; the energy-water-environment connection; data centre planning and flexibility; power electronics; grid codes and modelling; power system dynamics; cybersecurity; AI/ML models for data centre control; electricity markets; and co-simulation of AI data centre–power grid interactions. Hands-on sessions on MW-scale AI data centre simulations will use MATLAB Simulink. Speakers include Prof. Vladimir Terzija (Newcastle University, UK); Dr. Deep Deka and Prof. Saurabh Amin (MIT, USA); Prof. Sukumar Kamalasadan (University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA); Prof. Sairaj Dhople (University of Minnesota, USA); Prof. Nilanjan Ray Chaudhuri (Penn State University, USA); Prof. Parikshit Pareek (IIT Roorkee); and IISc faculty Prof. Pramod Kumar, Prof. Parimal Parag, Prof. Praveen Ramamurthy, Prof. Kaushik Basu, Prof. Vinod John and Prof. Sarasij Das.
