Big Machines to Study Molecules

A public lecture on how large scientific instruments using quantum physics help researchers understand molecular structures and the processes that influence life, health and disease.

About this event

Science Gallery Bengaluru presents a public lecture by Vinothkumar Kutti Ragunath exploring how large scientific machines, relying on quantum physics, help reveal the molecular processes that sustain life and influence health and disease. The lecture traces the hierarchy of life from atoms and molecules to organelles, cells, tissues, organs, populations, ecosystems and the biosphere, highlighting the importance of understanding molecular structures, interactions and changes. Some of the instruments used for this research span hundreds of metres or even kilometres.
