Beyond the Psychiatrist’s Couch: Privilege, Stigma and Access to Mental Health Care Across Communities

A lecture exploring community-based approaches to mental health care and how privilege, stigma and social inequalities shape access to support.

About this event

Pint of View Bangalore, in collaboration with Local Ferment Co., presents Dr. Mukta Gundi, faculty at the School of Development at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. The lecture examines mental health through a public health lens, exploring community-based approaches such as dukhu-sukhu baithaki in Jharkhand, Friendship Benches in Zimbabwe and dance movement therapy in West Bengal. It considers how communities and social spaces can support mental health care while recognising that these approaches do not replace psychiatric, medication or clinical care.
